Thursday July 5, 2012 Africa:  Day 25

            Kelsey and I spent the morning at Pantang going around with the morning cleaning inspection team, sitting in on another entertaining morning meeting.  This time they read every headline of every article in two different newspapers, and then read the entire horoscope section.  This current events section was also accompanied by musical numbers, trivia questions, and bible verses.  We then sat through a group meeting, and waited around another hour for lunch because the second group meeting had been cancelled.  Following lunch, Kelsey and I went on a tour of a couple of the other buildings here at the hospital.  This place was actually built for the purpose of being a mental health hospital and not an asylum like the Accra hospital, so the facilities are so much nicer.  Here everyone has beds and there are significantly less people in each room (oh, and the patients actually get rooms).  It was also interesting to learn that there are a bunch of buildings that sit on the property that have never been used for anything because the hospital ran out of funding before it get could everything up and running.  Apparently squatters have taken up residency here for years.  The hospital doesn’t really want to do anything about it at this point because after six months the land owner has to go through a legal process to kick a squatter off the property. 

            We just enjoyed a quiet evening back at the hostel after we all got back from our respective psych hospitals.  I think we were all ready to take a break after a very busy past few days.
